To support the chapter and the community we serve, by providing assistance to all disaster victims in a timely, efficient, and effective manner, in order to eliminate their immediate disaster-caused needs.
To provide education to the community, volunteers, and staff, in the prevention of, preparedness for, and response to all disasters.
To support America’s military families by providing a continuous
emergency communication link between the service members and their families.
And to aid all refugees and refugee families whenever they seek our assistance
The Emergency Services Department is divided into Disaster Services, Armed Forces Emergency Services, and International Social Services.
The volunteers and paid staff of the Atlantic/Cumberland Chapter of the American Red Cross, through training and practice, are prepared for the most intense dangers that threaten our communities. Single and multiple-family dwelling fires are the most common of the more than 200 incidents to which the chapter responds annually. We also deal with flooding, "Nor'easter" storms and hurricanes, and continually prepare to deal with nuclear accidents and terrorism. In all cases, the Atlantic/Cumberland chapter provides for the immediate disaster-caused needs of the victims. The primary needs are food, shelter and clothing. The chapter also supplies mass-care food and canteen services for both victims and emergency workers.
The Atlantic/Cumberland chapter maintains strong relationships with the emergency managers, police and fire departments in the area. Working hand-in-hand with key members of the community, the chapter helps develop strategies and tactics for not just disaster response, but also, the prevention and preparedness plans that help decrease the impact of these disasters.

Armed Forces Emergency Services
The Atlantic/Cumberland chapter of the American Red Cross serves as a primary communications link between the families of U.S. Armed Forces personnel living within the chapter's jurisdiction and the U.S. military commands throughout the world. In the event of a family emergency, such as, a death or serious illness, the family can contact the our chapter around the clock and send a much-needed message to its loved ones.
The chapter also assists service members who become stranded within the chapter's jurisdiction due to a sudden financial emergency. The chapter's armed forces emergency services caseworkers can help the services member complete the forms necessary for obtaining an interest-free loan from the various military aid societies.
Families who have not heard from a son or daughter serving in the in the military for an extended period of time can contact the chapter in order to send a Health and Welfare Inquiry to the proper military command. Provided that the absence of communication has been more than a month and less than a year the caseworker will be able to send a message to the military.
The Atlantic/Cumberland Chapter of the American Red Cross provides assistance to families attempting to find relatives who have been displaced due war or natural disaster. Through the Red Cross International Network the chapter can provide tracing services in many nations throughout the world. One of the most active tracing services programs of the Red Cross is that of tracing families affected by the Holocaust.
Persons wishing Family Reunification Services can contact the chapter and receive counseling as to the proper steps necessary in order to be successful in their endeavor.
