Volunteer Services Mission:

The Volunteer Services Department provides commitment, and structure for accomplishing the mission of the Red Cross through the involvement and leadership of a qualified volunteer workforce by providing recruitment, training, effective involvement, support and retention of these volunteers.

The Volunteer Services Department provides structure, commitment, and continuity to accomplish the mission of the Atlantic/Cumberland Chapter of the American Red Cross. A qualified volunteer workforce oversees the recruitment, training, ongoing support, and retention of the volunteers and maintains their effective involvement.

Our Chapter has a variety of volunteer opportunities including: blood services; clerical and administrative; disaster services; armed forces emergency services; health and safety training and support; community education; local and national fundraising; events planning and board membership.

The Volunteer Services Department assists individuals interested in these opportunities by providing the training, placement and recognition they need to ensure a positive and productive volunteer work experience.

All volunteers 18 years of age and up must complete the background check process, prior to volunteering for the American Red Cross.

Click "Request a background check," and it will bring you to a map of the United States.

Click on New Jersey to view a list of New Jersey Chapters.

Select "Atlantic/Cumberland" from the list and it will take you to a page that outlines the process.

Click on "Click here to get started" button at the bottom of the page.

Select your role with the Red Cross and click "I am a current employee" or "I am a current volunteer."

The next page is the consent, disclosure and authorization page. Read and click on "I agree" button to proceed. Then click on the "I accept" box at the very bottom of the page.

The next page is the data page. Complete all mandatory fields. Click "Continue" in the lower right hand corner.

Public Affairs /Fund Development Representative
Descriptions: Assist in the coordination of community events for the Red Cross. Increase visibility of Red Cross programs and services. Represent the Red Cross and its mission at public events. 

Assist with fundraising activities and health fairs events, preparing and following up on continuing projects.
Assist with general office duties, incoming calls, information management, filing, and other tasks as assigned.
Greets visitors and directs to appropriate area or person when applicable.
Advocate for the Red Cross.
Ability to implement communication plans, developing and implementing education program and emergency preparedness programs, and developing and assisting with materials for achieving revenue goals.

Assist Director and designated staff at public events such as fund raising events, achievement award events, emergency preparedness training and miscellaneous other events. 

Requirements:
Excellent oral and written communications skills. Strong interpersonal skills.  Ability to foster cooperative relationships.  Networking abilities. Familiar with service area.
Resourceful and detail oriented. Must be a Red Cross advocate.
This position is ideal for a special/caring persons with strong interpersonal skills and the  ability to network at all levels. Students are encourage to apply!!!

This position is ideal for volunteers with a Bachelors degree in public relations, literature, journalism, communications, political science or business administration or related field.

Reports to: Director of Development & Public Affairs 
Commitment:  About 20 hours per year

Donor Services Representative
Description: Volunteers provide customer service activities at monthly blood drive, such as greeting and registering donors, assist donors in reception and refreshment areas.  Volunteers may also work with individuals, groups, and companies to schedule blood drives.  Flexible schedules and free training!

Requirements: Must be 16 years of age or older, have customer service, hospitality & communication skills.

Polite, calm, & enthusiastic.
Must be able to transport yourself to blood drives within your local area. 

Reports to:  Blood Services Coordinator
Commitment:  About six hours per month

Administrative Assistant

Description:  This position may encompass various type activities and some or all of the following:  Assist with mailing, filing, inventory, various fundraising duties, and assist with special events, computer data-entry.  Volunteers may assist speakers at presentations.  Volunteers may be required to assemble data, packets for distributions, and may be needed to perform clerical responsibilities.  Volunteers can assist with record keeping, answering phones, research, and assisting other volunteers.

Some other examples of Administrative Assistant volunteer duties include:  stuffing envelopes, translating documents, writing thank you notes, assist with mailings, distributing brochures, taking photo’s at events, posting flyers, updating bulletin board notices, mailing out surveys, organizing events,  assisting at various events such as donor drives, training events, or health fairs.  Provide water and snacks to emergency response workers, create flyers, sell tickets, run errands, direct calls, take messages, assist with daily office tasks or assist with special projects.  

Requirements:  Must be 16 years of age or older.  Should have good organization skills and attention to detail.  Self motivated, ability to follow instructions and complete a project. Computer skills helpful.   Must be able to read and write. Clear and pleasant speaking voice and desire to assist others.  Office skills a plus.  Willingness to learn new skills a plus. Ability to work with employees and volunteers and be part of a team.  Polite, calm, and enthusiastic.

Commitment:  About 5 hours per week

Health and Safety Instructor
Description:  Volunteers needed to train people of all ages to save lives.  Provide instruction at community facilities  in First Aid, CPR, Babysitters Training, Water Safety and other programs to help give others the confidence and abilities to save a life.

Requirements:   No experience necessary.  We will supply you with the training necessary to become a qualified instructor for the American Red Cross.

Comfortable with public speaking, positive attitude ability to direct and speak clearly. 
Ability to demonstrate CPR and first aid skills. 
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be a Red Cross advocate.

Reports to:   Health & Safety Coordinator
Commitment:  About 10 hours per year

Health and Safety Aid
Description:  Assist Health and Safety Instructor with training responsibilities.  Compile and organize training material.  Attend instruction events and assist trainer with setting up, distributing information, collecting data.

Requirements:  Organization skills, clear and pleasant speaking voice, some administrative/clerical skills, sincere interest in helping others, positive attitude, comfortable with public speaking and presentations.

Reports to:  Health and  Safety Coordinator  
Commitment:  About 10 hours per year

Webmaster
Description: Volunteer needed to maintain and update web site,  and make design recommendations and changes.
Provide ongoing development and programming of American Red Cross web site for Atlantic/Cumberland chapter. 

Coordinate any activities of the website.  Provide web design enhancements.
Act as information architect, ensuring site usability and site User End friendliness.
Provide maintenance of web site and management of content. 
Manage access, appearance, and setting up of web site navigation.  Assist with content placement updating special events in a timely manner.

Requirements: HTML knowledge, preference to volunteers with FrontPage experience.

Reports to:   Director of Development & Public Affairs

Commitment:  About 5 hours per month
Background check required.
